In the 1970s and 1980s, Versace built on the success of his debut collection to expand his brand. In a congested fashion business, he was noted for his use of striking designs, vivid colors, and opulent fabrics, which helped him stand out. Most of the pieces are made in wool and silk—quality fabrics that hold their shape. The design team used techniques usually reserved for their couture Atelier line. Nearly everything is black, caramel, or gray, with a few snaps of orange and electric blue.
